The Astronomy Complex from Baia Mare is the first public planetarium, opened in 1969, and starting from 2015 – the most modern planetarium from Romania and this part of Europe, presenting the new ZEISS Skymaster ZKP4 LED star projector, the top of global planetariums technology.

The Baia Mare Astronomical Complex is an important cultural-scientific and tourist center in Baia Mare, which is under the direct subordination of the Maramureş County Council since 2014. Previously, our institution was known as BAIA MARE PLANETARIU, being specialized section of the Baia Mare Mineralogy Museum (2007 - 2014), and before that, during the period (1990 - 2006) office in the Maramures County Museum. The history of our institution began, however, in 1969, when the first public planetarium in Romania was inaugurated on July 1 (an episode immediately followed by the opening of the Constanta public planetary space) and by the addition of the astronomical observer, the new institution was named of the Baia Mare Astronomical Complex. 

Palmares - in its history for nearly 50 years, our institution has received more than 1,000,000 visitors; Astronomical Complex Baia Mare: the first public planetarium in Romania (1969), the only public planetarium in Transylvania (1969-2017), the most modern public planetarium in Romania (since 2015), the first and the most modern multimedia digital exhibition in Romania Romania (2011 - present), a center of excellence in popularizing astronomy (2015 - present), etc.
